Creating Blueprint Courses
When creating a Blueprint course, it has to be created in the subaccount where the associated courses will reside. Be sure to add the term to the blueprint. It's easier to create a new blueprint and copy content into the new blueprint and rollover the dates than it is to disassociate sections from an old blueprint and update the dates.
Common Issues
Syncing Issues
Problem: There will be times when an instructor calls and says that one or more associated courses won’t properly sync after they had made changes to the Blueprint Course and clicked on the Sync button.
Verify: To be able to verify the courses that aren’t properly syncing, you can click on the Blue button in the top right corner of the course and click Sync History . There, you will see the time that the sync was ran, which element was updated, and if there are any issues, it will say in a little pill notification on the right-hand side “# Exceptions.” When clicking on the dropdown arrow, you will see which sections the content did not get updated.
Reason: This usually happens because an instructor that is teaching the associated course made their own edits to that specific element, which consequently causes that element in the associated course to be “out of sync” with the Blueprint Course because the content no longer matches. This can even happen if the smallest grammar change is made (i.e. adding a comma in a sentence).
Solutions:
Go into the associated course(s) that won’t properly sync and lock the content (which will lock the ability to edit the element). Then try syncing the blueprint course again.
If the above solution doesn’t work, try disassociating the course, then reassociating it. You do this by clicking on the Blueprint button in the upper-right hand corner, clicking Associations , clicking the X to the right of the course(s), then clicking Save . Then, you would have to search the name of the course that you just removed to add it back to the associations. Once you do that, save your updates and try syncing it again.
Future Prevention: To avoid this from happening in the future, you can suggest having the instructor lock all of the content that they don’t want the instructors of the associated courses to edit. Then, if those instructors do want to make edits, have them content the instructor over the Blueprint Course to make the change and then Sync it.
