Polling Options

Last updated by neal.legler 4 years ago
The number of freemium live polling tools continues to grow. Here are a number that offer free or educational versions. This list is by no means exhaustive. As Internet resources tend to come and go, please make updates or notes as new resources appear and other resources become obsolete.

Pingo: http://trypingo.com/ .   Open-source and freely available for unlimited use. Allows import/export of questions. Question types include multiple-choice, single-choice, tagcloud, and numeric questions, with acceptance of LaTeX.

Acadly: https://www.acadly.com/ .  Unlimited free use for higher ed instructors with CSV grade export. Also has just an attendance taking option.

Mentimeter : https://www.mentimeter.com/ . Doesn't limit the number of students, but limits the number of questions.

ClassQuestion : https://classquestion.com/ . A completely free online polling tool. Donations are encouraged.

Classtime : This is specifically made for education and is free for up to 40 students:

Wooclap:  The free plan allows 2 questions for up to 1000 students for unlimited sessions. After that, there are monthly plans. A lot of question types. Excel export available at higher monthly rates. https://www.wooclap.com/

Polleverywhere : https://www.polleverywhere.com/ . Takes text messages and allows up to 40 responses on the free plan.

Nearpod : This allows you to create standalone lessons that are delivered either in real-time or asynchronously. https://nearpod.com/ . Free pricing for up to 30 people.

Slido : Their free plan allows up to three polls per event with up to 1000 students per event: https://www.sli.do/pricing?plan=edu
It also has a $75/year teacher price.

Socrative : By MasteryConnect. It’s pretty cool, but doesn’t have a big free plan (only 50 students per session): https://www.socrative.com/pricing.html

DirectPoll : This is pretty lightweight. It looks like it just does multiple choice. But it’s totally free: http://directpoll.com/faq/

Glisser : “All the main interactive features are available and unrestricted. … You’ll get preview analytics, but any audience interaction will be owned by Glisser until you upgrade.” https://www.glisser.com/event-plans/

Tallyspace : This one doesn’t have a free plan, but it does have SMS voting for $350/year, and that’s the only reason I am listing it:https://www.tallyspace.com/pricing .

Kahoot : Free, game-like in nature, without much in the way of analytics: https://kahoot.com/

There are lots more. For a fairly updated list, see what Alternativeto.net pulls up as alternatives to PollEverywhere: https://alternativeto.net/software/poll-everywhere/
