Add Videos to Course Media Gallery

Adding videos to the course Media Gallery consolidates all of the videos in one place and makes it easy to submit all of them for captioning at once. The Course Media Gallery also provides some helpful tools for teachers and makes it easy for students in the course to find all of the videos in one place.

You can add videos to the Media Gallery by masquerading or “acting” as the teacher or through the Kaltura Management Console  (KMC) .

Identify Video Entry ID

It is not always easy to know what a video, view the instructions on Identifying a Video in Canvas .

Add Videos to the Media Gallery by Acting as the Teacher

This solution will only work for videos that are in Kaltura and where the teacher is assigned as the owner. If you don’t see a video that should be in the Media Gallery when using these feature, then you will need to use the instructions below about adding a video through the KMC.

Act as the Teacher  (if the teacher has never used the Media Gallery before you may need to authorize the tool to be used)
Go to the Course Media Gallery
Click “+ Add Media”
Find and select the videos from the course that should be in the media gallery - you can search or use filters to find media. You can search for the Kaltura Entry ID.
NOTE: Since you are acting as the teacher, this will show all of the videos that belong to the teacher, not just the videos for this course. Be sure to only select the videos for this course.
Once you have selected some or all of the videos, click “Publish”

Add Videos to the Media Gallery through the KMC

If you prefer, or don’t have access to be able to act as a user, you can do so through the KMC. As background - when you add a video to a course Media Gallery, it is basically just adding a category to the video in the KMC - so we can use a shortcut and add the correct category directly to the video in Kaltura.

Make sure you have visited the Media Gallery at least once in the course to create the category in the KMC.

The category that we add in Kaltura is the Canvas Course ID that is found in the URL for any course. For example, in the URL:
“431567” is the Course ID - the 6 digit number found immediately after /courses/. When the course ID is added as a category to a video in the KMC, that video will show up in the Media Gallery for that course.

Add a Category to a Video or Group of Videos

Make sure you have visited the course Media Gallery at least once. (You have to visit the Media Gallery at least once in a course for the category to be created in the KMC).
Find the video or videos  you are looking (usually searching fo the video Entry ID)
Follow the instructions on Adding a Category to a Single Video  or Adding a Category to Multiple Videos  to add the course ID to the video.
Now when you go to the Course Media Gallerythat video will show up. Nice work!
